Engage Your World: Out of Order? Approaching North Korean Human Rights & Denuclearization

Engage Your World

Tue, Feb 23 | 5:30 pm | The Globe Auditorium - Next in our Engage Your World series features Keith Luse, Executive Director of the National Committee on North Korea; David Maxwell, Associate Director of the Center for Security Studies and the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University; and Roberta Cohen, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy Program at the Brookings Institute. The panel will be moderated by Kyle Ferrier, Director of Academic Affairs and Research at the Korea Economic Institute of America.

CGE is co-sponsorring the event with the Korea Economic Institute of America and FSU College of Social Sciences and Public Policy Broad Lectureship. Free and open to the public. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

Nominations for the Global Citizen Award
 

International Bazaar

Deadline Mon, Feb 29
The Global Citizen Award is presented to up to two outstanding students who have been actively engaged in intercultural initiatives and/or who have exemplified leadership in promoting and supporting a global community among Florida State University students. Students can be nominated by faculty, staff, or their peers. The deadline for nominations is Feb 29.

U.S. students, scholars, and faculty gather for coffee and snacks every Friday. It's a great place to meet new people from various parts of the world, see old friends, and make plans for the weekend. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

 

English Conversation Club - Every Monday-Friday | 4-5 pm | The Globe Lounge
International students, scholars, and their families at all levels of speaking English as a second/other language are invited to meet in a relaxed atmosphere to practice conversational English. Groups are led by experienced English tutors.

 

Global Partner Certificate: Managing Intercultural Conflict (for Faculty, Staff & Grad Students) - Fri, Feb 19 | 10 am-12 pm | The Globe Room 2300
Prerequisite: Bridging Cultures I & II. The Global Partner Certificate is a Center for Global Engagement professional development initiative for those interested in improving their intercultural communication, knowledge, skills, and awareness and becoming more globally competent. Global Cafe - Mexico - Fri, Feb 19 | 11:30 am-2 pm | The Globe Dining Room
This week is co-hosted with the Mexican American Student Association. The meal features tostadas (fried tortilla topped with chicken and vegetables) or the vegetarian option (tostadas topped with potatoes and beans). Open to the public. $7 cash or check only. Qualifies for the Global Citizenship Certificate

 

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Workshop (for F-1 international students) - Fri, Feb 19 | 2-4 pm | The Globe Room 2300
Note: Only for those registered. All F-1 international students nearing graduation are required to attend an OPT workshop (in person or online) if they are interested in working in the U.S. after graduation to gain experience in their field of study. Registration for this workshop is full. The next OPT Workshop is March 18--see below.

International Student Employment Workshop: Preparing to Gain Employment in the U.S. - Sat, Mar 19 | 9:30 am-3 pm | The Globe Auditorium
This workshop for international students features immigration attorney Aaron Blumberg and presenters from the FSU Career Center. Hear more about transitioning from student to work visa status and options for obtaining permanent residence. Learn how to market your skills and identify potential job or internship opportunities. Postdoctoral researchers and other FSU international employees are welcome to attend. Light breakfast and lunch are provided. Registration is required.
