J-1 Research Scholars, Professors, Short-Term Scholars, & Specialists

NOTE: J-1 students should refer to the information found at the International Students tab above.

International scholars enrich Florida State University's community. The Center for Global Engagement appreciates the opportunity to assist university departments and international scholars through immigration support, pre-arrival information, and cultural programs.

PROSPECTIVE SCHOLARS: An academic department or other university unit initiates the invitation to international researchers, professionals, or students researchers who come to FSU to contribute to the academic community. After obtaining approval through the RAMP Export Control Module, the inviting or hiring unit compiles the documentation the CGE requires in order to assist with the appropriate visa classification. Prospective employees who already have employment authorization valid for FSU employment will not need CGE immigration assistance.

Information in the links on the menu to the left provide general information about visa classifications as well as other information pertinent to living in Tallahassee.

INCOMING AND CURRENT SCHOLARS, RESEARCHERS: The CGE scholar advisor (below) is available to assist departments and J-1 exchange visitors with immigration support. Use the links on the left menu to find general information about visas and other resources.
